A riposte to "Discovery" methinks-but the "new Star Trek TV show" should have been set in the Picard/Next Generation Era.
It would, overall, have a very similar plot. Multiple flashbacks to the Federation-Klingon conflict in Kirk's time would occur as several characters would be veterans of that conflict.
The plot concerns a Romulan invasion of the Federation after their home-world was destroyed in Star Trek by a supernova. It is basically a revenge plot by Romulan survivors.
There is also the issue of what the joint Federation-Klingon occupation of Cardassia turns into. I want to introduce the idea that many long-term Federation planets were members in name only, having joined the Federation only to become trapped in or "behind" various Neutral Zones. We can explore these "new" races with the crew of our star ship.
